The Long Dim Road (a poem)

The Long Dim Road

The soul gets weary, along its deep trail,
Yet there’s light to guide the way;
It has no worldly wise mixture or dale,
The long dim road of yesterday…!

Along this deep, wincey, and worn out trail,
Where one my stray where shadows pry,
Where many a dreamer lost their Godly way
The long dim road of yesterday…

He needs to keep a strong and steady pace
Walk under the light to guide his way:
He need not walk this weary road alone
The long dim road of yesterday…

Today, with flesh and bone, a planet’s haze
A shadowy paradise with nay
Where olden empires came, left—golden dust
Aye! Yesterday…is now today!
